Valtrex (Valacyclovir) is an antiviral used in patients with normal immune systems to treat herpes zoster infections (shingles) or genital herpes. Valtrex (Valacyclovir) may also be used for cold sores (herpes simplex). Valtrex (Valacyclovir) may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. Valtrex (Valacyclovir) is a prodrug of a medication called acyclovir (Zovirax) and is advantagoues to acyclovir because Valtrex (Valacyclovir) can be taken less frequently. Valtrex side effects, that may go away during VALTREX treatment, include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, or headache.
