"More than a Million Americans Now Buy
their Medications in Canada"
Source : CBS - 60 Minutes - "Prescriptions And Profit" 3/14/2004
(CBS) It may come as no surprise that the pharmaceutical industry is
the most profitable business in the country. Americans pay far more
for their prescription drugs than citizens of any place on Earth.
It will also come as no surprise that as a political issue, the high
price of drugs has united both Republicans and Democrats. More than
a million Americans now buy their medications in Canada.
And it's no longer just older people taking buses across the border.
Mayors and governors from Minnesota to Alabama are helping Americans
get Canadian drugs by mail.
Such purchases are technically illegal. So far, the government has
declined to prosecute individual customers or the cities and states
involved. But the FDA.

Exercise for your Body and Mind
By Chelle Davidson - CanDrug USA
Exercise is a must for everyone, but that doesn't
mean every type of exercise is for everyone. If you’ve never had
an exercise routine before, one of the safest and most enjoyable forms
of exercise is to just get out and walk. But to gain any physical benefit
from walking, you can’t just stroll. Remember you need at least
30 to 40 minutes of exercise per workout to help with weight loss and
keep your heart healthy. Here are a few tips to help you increase your
exercise activity.
Try to eat before you exercise; not at the Country Buffet “all–you-can–eat”
breakfast, but have some fruit approximately 30 minutes prior to your
workout. Fruit gives your body good fuel to get you through your workout.
You may also want to eat some fruit after your workout to help replace
lost sugar in your system. If you are diabetic, please follow the advice
of your physician.
It’s important to drink water during your workout. Carry a bottle
of water with you. Stop for water breaks. Remember to sip your water
not gulp it down. Water helps keep you from cramping. If you continue
to have muscle cramps see a doctor.
Try to avoid walking on concrete sidewalks or a concrete road. This
type of surface is extremely hard on the lower body. A good place to
walk is at a school track; not only is this a softer surface, it can
help you keep track of how many miles you have walked.
If you have a hard time motivating yourself to get out and walk, exercise
with some friends. Friends help motivate each other and it’s a
good time to catch up on what’s happening in your lives. This
is also a good way to gauge how hard you’re working out. If you
can talk comfortably while walking, you may want to pick up the pace
a little so that talking is more difficult. Then you know you’re
in your target workout range.
Exercise can be good for both your body and mind. After a few weeks
you will probably feel better, your muscles will get used to working
and you could lose weight. But most importantly, enjoy yourself! If
you’re not having fun, you won’t want to continue doing
it. So whatever exercise program you adopt, make sure you feel better
after you’re done than when you started.
Remember that before you begin any exercise program, always consult
your physician, especially if you are overweight or have a medical condition.

Meet Amarjit Mann - Pharmacy Manager
If you receive a call from the CanDrug pharmacy and
a gentleman with an English accent goes over your patient information
form with you, you’ll know you’re talking to Amarjit Mann,
the CanDrug Pharmacy Manager.
Amarjit is one of two on-staff pharmacists who fill your prescriptions
and make sure you get the medication you ordered. He graduated from
the University of British Columbia and has been a practicing pharmacist
since 1997. Not one to rest on his laurels, he also managed to graduate
with his MBA from the Sauder School of Business in 2003, while undertaking
the daunting task of getting CanDrug up and running full steam.
Mr. Mann was interested in medical knowledge from an early age and
feels that pharmacy has provided him with the foundation to provide
frontline disease management services to patients both on a distance
basis and in a community setting.
Amarjit really loves the clinical aspect of his work. Talking one-on-one
with individual patients and helping them better understand their medical
regimens is really satisfying to him.
He would like patients to remember that medical therapies are an important
component in providing patient with a healthy lifestyle. But he also
cautions that it’s important for people to remember to take charge
of their own lifestyles, in terms of diet and exercise. After all, the
best form of therapy is prevention. Walking 20 minutes a day can go
a long way toward improving your health and preventing unnecessary illness.
Since there has been a lot of talk in the news lately about the safety
of Canadian drugs, Mr. Mann felt it important to re-emphasize the safety
of Canadian drugs.
“Our Canadian medical system is second to none. The medications
approved for Canada are manufactured in the same facilities by multinational
pharmaceutical companies for all industrialized countries. The main
difference between Canadian and U.S. medications is the different labeling
requirements for packaging in the two countries.”
CanDrug prides itself on its knowledgeable staff and its commitment
to the highest safety standards possible. That is due in large part
to the commitment of Amarjit Mann.
